Never Forget To See The Beauty in What You Have, Tools to Gratitude and Appreciation
April 21, 2015Croatia Yoga Retreat, End of Week One
May 15, 2015The adventure began as we set foot on an immense ferryboat in route to Vis. Crashing waves murmured farewell from the city of Split, where ancient Roman and Greek architecture shoots toward the sky above the coastal city. It is outlined by the Mosor Mountains, making for a picture perfect send-off.
Arriving on the island of Vis was a treat in itself. The buildings are small, old and quaint, made primarily of stone and just screaming with history. The retreat estate is located in the center of the Island, so we made our way over winding hilly roads, speckled with ripe vineyards along the way. It is a pleasure just to arrive.
The Estate itself is beautiful. It’s located on a vineyard, and the views are all around amazing. On a clear day, you can even see the Adriatic Sea. The pool is in the perfect location, with sun exposure all day long, weather permitting.
The actual house is great. It has character. The rooms are large with high ceilings and primarily
old stone walls that are 200 years old. The bathrooms are also nice and spacious. The entire place is immaculate. There’s an indoor yoga studio with a mirrored wall. It’s relaxing and cool. However the outside decks are made for yoga.
The guests arrived late on Saturday, hungry and sleepy. Speaking of hunger, let me just touch on the meals! This place could turn anyone into a vegetarian. Wow! The cuisine is fresh, extremely healthy and absolutely delicious. I have never experienced such a creative variety of vegetarian dishes. Every meal even has a detailed description encompassing the nutritional value of what you are consuming.
Sunday morning we started off with our first hour and a half long class of the week in the studio, as the morning air had a chill to it. However, every day since we have practice outdoors, surrounded by the sun and nature.
The first group is great! There are seven women and one man, off all ages and from various parts of the world. The UK, Germany, Austria, America and New Zealand. They are fun, energetic and ambitious about yoga. Each day brings on a new adventure, as I slowly add yoga challenges I have designed especially for them. I’m combing yoga postures, breathing and meditation, in a unique mix. I watch them grow in strength, both physically and mentally, by the class.
Outside of our three hours of daily yoga and delicious meals, the excursions are quite fun. The island is relatively small and you can see most of it throughout the week. So far we have explored the two main towns, Vis and Komiza, and some beautiful beaches. Some guests use their free time to run, cycle, kayak or explore.
It’s been a perfect beginning! The entire group is bonding and intermingling quite nicely, and I’m looking forward to continuing the week.
